Food Educator
Pimlico Elementary/Middle School is looking for a Food Educator
Qualifications
• An educator who values experiential learning and holds students to consistently high expectations.
• Passionate about food literacy education including cooking, nutrition, gardening, multiculturalism, and an eagerness to share that passion with students ages 4-14.
• A bachelor’s degree (required), with at least 2 years of teaching experience and state certification (preferred).
Responsibilities
• Plan and implement Food is Elementary (FIE) lessons to students in grades PreK – 8 under the training and mentorship of the Food Studies Institute (FSI).
• Facilitate meaningful, hands-on learning activities for students of all abilities and learning styles to engage in rigorous work.
• Cultivate a supportive learning community based on positive relationships, collaborative group work, inquiry, inclusion, and student voice.
• Plan, prepare and organize materials for classes (handouts, food journals, fresh and cooked foods, cooking utensils and equipment, and cleaning materials).
• Purchase materials including foods for lessons, keep a record of all materials purchased and submit receipts.
• Ensure a safe and clean classroom environment and maintain COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
• Develop a school garden and engage students in lessons on its growth and maintenance.
• Meet regularly with the Food Studies Institute consultant online and in person.
• Produce documentation as requested by FSI.
• Attend team meetings and professional development, communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues, and participate actively in the school community.
