The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is presently taking Lateral Transfer applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff, which currently one open Road Patrol position exists. Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification is required for “Lateral Transfer”. Out of state certifications must meet the NLETC qualification standards for certification. Job Description A Deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will perform all related duties on the patrol division including, but not limited to, patrolling Madison County’s rural and municipal areas to prevent and discover the commission of crimes; enforce State laws; enforce traffic regulations; conduct investigations on criminal offenses and traffic accidents to gather evidence, obtain witnesses and make arrests; serve subpoenas, writs, executions and other civil documents; provide documentation and testimony to courts; perform prisoner transports and extraditions. Minimum Required Qualifications Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification is required, out of state certifications must meet the NLETC qualification standards for certification. Ability to meet, communicate, and work with general public effectively and to react calmly, quickly, and accurately in emergency situations essential. Must successfully pass a thorough background check. Hiring Process Following a review of all applications, qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the hiring process. Verification of Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification and have a successful Merit Commission interview in order to be placed on the eligibility list. The eligibility list is valid for up to six (6) months. Those on the eligibility list will be considered for employment. Posted salary negotiable based on certification, experience, and qualifications. In addition to retirement and health insurance, Madison County offers a wide variety of insurance options.
