Activites Development Director
Visit Norfolk Area Nebraska and Sports Council Position:
Activities Development Director Function:
Provides administration and support for the Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau and Norfolk Area Sports Council.
Education: Associate degree required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Requires 2-3 years of administrative experience in a fast-paced office with event planning as a plus.
Skills: Requires strong telephone, computer, organization and communication skills and ability to work successfully with the public, provide courteous customer service and conform to deadlines.
Proficiency in correspondence, marketing material, writing skills (correct grammar, punctuation and form), and public relations skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office (excel, word, outlook, etc), social media programs and the ability to learn other computer programs as required.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite helpful.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for day-to-day activities:
Greet and host visitors coming and calling the Visitors Center
Mail requested visitor packets as well as stock and deliver visitors guides
Answers direct calls for Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau and Sports Council phone line(s) in a courteous manner
Provide assistance for conventions: nametags, welcome bags, registrations
Records and distributes Board meeting minutes as requested
Communicate effectively with supervisor, peers, or subordinates
Communicate with people in a professional manner outside the organization, representing the organizations to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
Willing to attend community organization meetings
Assist the Director and staff as other duties assigned
Ability to travel as required
Responsible for updating of the Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau and Sports Council website (WordPress) including adding events (creating new pages, updating pages)
Activities Development Director includes:
Promote the Norfolk area as one of the region’s premier destinations for special events, sporting events and programs to increase travel-related revenues and overnight stays
Brings together special interest groups to attract sporting events
Will be responsible for working with the local sports and recreation organizations, event development/execution and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Responsible for creating monthly newsletter and press releases
Working with local sports organizations on grants and sponsorships
Accountable for gathering information, producing and distributing the Norfolk Area Minute (monthly event listing)
Responsible for maintaining social media content development and dissemination, collaboration with Marketing Director.
Willing to take pictures/record video with provided camera.
Assist with implementing ideas to increase online presence based on analytics and marketing trends.
Responsible for Norfolk Now-Connect organization.
