This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The preferred candidate will provide overall direction and leadership to the Y’s aquatic facility & programming. This will include enhancing current programs and developing new programs to meet the needs of YMCA members and the communities we serve.
Education & Training Requirements: Requirements within 60 days of hire include Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens. Completion trainer certifications for Red Cross: Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, ADE & Bloodborne Pathogens within the first 6 months of hire.
Preferred minimum one year of related experience in aquatics/lifeguarding.
Must have great interpersonal, leadership, public relations, and communication skills. Adult, Infant & Child CPR trained and certified.
Essential Functions: Directs & supervises aquatic program activities to meet the YMCA objectives, standards and guidelines. Establishes new program activities within department to serve community objectives in accordance with strategic & operating plans. Directs & monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local & YMCA health and safety regulations. Develops & maintains member connections through aquatic programs. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules & directs personnel & volunteers as needed. Reviews & evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff & achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current & complete. Conducts & ensures proper maintenance of pool. Conducts lifeguard & swim instruction training. Creates and schedules swim instruction classes. Compiles program statistics to monitor & evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs. Develops & monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. Assists in the marketing of the aquatic programs. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment. Promotes and incorporates the Norfolk Family YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities. All other duties assigned by the CEO or Associate Director.
Salary: $40,000 - $45,000 / year
